XP reinstall. Any WGA problems?

Replacing HDD under warranty. Using mfgr-supplied set of CD's to
reinstall XP Pro to original status,it came with SP2 installed. Will
have to got the the MSFT website to update XP to current level.

Here's the questions, is there any possability that I could have a WGA
problem due to the new HDD? Is there any way to guard against the
eventuality of that happening?

If it does, who do I call, MSFT? or the MFGR?

It shouldn't affect WGA. WGA is checking the validity of Windows XP, not
your hard drive.

I would have thought any problems would be dealt with by Microsoft Customer
Service. The PC or Hard drive manufacturer has no control over WGA.

Well Doug, other than being the place where Windows stores itself and
from whence it generates its operating image, I guess the HDD doesn't
have that much to do with Windows. (You were being facitious, weren't
you?)

Based on the firestorm discussions regarding WGA's sending a variety of
non-Windows-associated configuration specs back to MS, I was just
making sure that changing the HDD wasn't one of those spec changes that
could trigger a false positive for pirated software.

Thanks John. The mfgr I was referencing was the mfgr of the laptop,
not the HDD mfgr, which would make any questions regrading the validity
of WinXP an OEM issue. Guess I've gotten even more paranoid from
reading too many of those WGA whine-fests.

It's not supposed to, according to MS, WGA doesn't mess with WPA ... let
us know what happens ... course if you're going to reinstall you might
want to consider setting automatic updates to "download and let me
choose" and not reinstall WGA at all! You can upgrade the Windows Media
9 to 10 by using Windows Media itself, Help/Check for player updates.
You would lose out all the defender like betas but BFD.

Thanks Alias. I do have Auto Updates set to notify. Just didn't know
what WGA was when it first hit.

Me either. For other reasons I am reinstalling XP on this computer but
no WGA for me. Once burned, twice learned and all that jazz.
