I have used PC Tools Registry Mechanic periodically to clean up the XP
Registry.
I suspect that over time some of the registry files were corrupted by this
process. Any comments?
Is there a safe way to keep XP registry clean and operating at optimal
performance?
Thank you for your replies.

Several friends of mine recommend EasyCleaner, CCleaner, the last freeware
version of JV-16 Power Tools, and RegClean 4.1a.

I don't use any of them.
1) When I uninstall a program, I use Total Uninstall to monitor the process
- and then manually remove the stuff that isn't automatically removed.
2) When I need a registry "tuneup" - I use NTREGOPT (free here:
http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/
3) I also backup my registry daily using the automatic procedure detailed
in the readme for ERUNT (in the same download as NTREGOPT) - just in case!
