I recently performed windows update and installed sp1 on a
sony laptop that
was sold with the os bundled on it. I left it to install
and when I came
back the laptop was in a state of constantly rebooting
itself before getting
anywhere near loading the os. When I try to boot in last
known good config
or any safe mode options it still does the same. So I am
unable to boot
into windows at all and I am reluctant to use the recovery
disk as I have
not backed up any files as yet. Can any one help ( I could
be in the
doghouse as this is my girlfriends Laptop!!)

you could try faking your own suicide.....
that way you stop the problem of irate girlfriend!!

lol

I have the same problem. I turned on Bootlog and see
certain drivers won't load and the OS boots again and again
until 3 strikes a drivers out perhaps and I get the Windows
XP Home screen. I don't have the time to go through one
after another. I hope there is an easier way.

Mine does the same after SP1 and it seems after bootlog
to reject drivers then finally work out how not to load a
number of them? It is very annoying a new copy of SP1
just installed, though it might be VIA drivers though the
latest, perhaps. In system though nothing in error once
finally loaded.

I have a recovery cd provided by sony that tells me to
backup files because it will restore the original image
onto the hard drive and I dont want to lose any files if
poss.
If you have an other suggestions though I would be
grateful. Also when I use a floppy to boot to a command
prompt I cant see the hard drive files. So this makes it
more difficult to try and save some files from their.
I have got a xp pro disc would this help considering it is
home edition that is not working on my laptop.

Take the laptop to a good local computer shop (not a CompUSA or BestBuy
type of store) and have them rescue your data. They can do so easily.
Then you can either have them reinstall Windows for you or do it
yourself with the restore disk.
