I purchased xp professional for my computer for work.
Just 1 week ago my hard drive crashed and everything was
a total loss. Do I have to purchase another Windows XP
to reinstall it on the newly installed hard drive on the
same computer? Or can I just reinstall it? a quick
responce is appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, you can install it again. No, you do not have to buy another copy of XP
as long as your original copy is used on only that computer.

Amy, MS allows you to replaced a few computer components before
considering it a different system.
So, a hard drive should be no problem.

Just reinstall it. If it's been more than 120 days since you first
installed it, it should reactivate OK. Otherwise, call Microsoft, explain
what happened and they'll give you what you need to reactivate it.

Even if you replace just about everything in the computer, you still do not
need to buy another copy of XP. Further, if you scrap your old computer
entirely (and do not continue using that copy of XP in the "scrapped"
computer), it is perfectly OK to transfer that copy of XP to an entirely
different computer.

The rule is: one computer per license.

Just reinstall (hopefully you have *not* lost the Product Key marked 'Do
not lose this number' - it is extraordinary how many people do). Just a
new hard drive will not prevent you activating on the Internet just as
the first time. Even if you have changed so much other hardware that it
does not go through on the net you can still do it by phoning in
