no because that would be a downgrade, and require a clean installation.
Media edition is an enhanced version of pro

No. Because XP Professional is a subset of Media Player Edition, doing what
you want is a downgrade, and downgrades are never supported. The only way to
get to XP Professional is by clean-installing it.

Why do you want to do this? Are you aware that there's nothing in XP .pro
that's not also in MCE, except the ability to join a domain. Unless you need
to join a domain (and very few home users do) there's no possible advantage
to downgrading.

Hi, I am some what of a newbie, but I am having the same
considerations. XP Pro over/clean install over MCE. I have read most of
the articles and yet it appears that the issue of MCE not supporting
Pro Audio 3rd party applications has come up. I have tried for a week
to get my 2002 MCE to record audio from an external source. For
example, Fantom X6 keyboard, through a M-Audio firewire 1814 audio
interface to a software app such as Wavelab or Acid Pro. I've called
M-Audio and Toshiba (my laptop) and both companies tell me that MCE
does not support such SW programs. So, if this is true, then I do not
know what other alternative I have but to install XP Pro over MCE. Any
help/advice or suggestions would be very muck appreciated.

Thanks.

As the original poster was told, you can't upgrade MCE to Pro because
that is considered a downgrade. For your particular problems, you would
do best to post to the Media Center newsgroup:
