xp prof?

I cant take it anymore. XP is more unstable than windows
2k Pro. I will not waste any more time with it but stay
with 2000 untill another operating system comes out that
doesnt have so many problems, degrading over time and with
every installation.
My next computer will be a mac, I promise. My os will
remain windows 2000 pro, untill something better comes
along.

I have been using XP for 2 years now on the same computer
and the original install to date the only problems I've
had have been extremly minor. Most problems with computers
are the result of operator error.

I agree I have used all the windows from win 3.1 up xp is very stable.
I have kept uptodate with all MS updates.
I have had a few problems with slowdowns after updates.
I simply fallback by restore and wait until a new fix occurs.

I agree also. My experience goes back to the early days of DOS and without
a doubt XP Pro is the most stable system I've ever used. Just about the only
time it's crashed is when I have done something stupid like trying to run a
program without restarting first.

Talking to other users they all say the same. Most of them can't remember
the last time they had a crash.

My only regret is that I hung on too long before I upgraded.

Good luck with Mac. That's not a bed of roses either from what I hear.

I would ask the original poster if he did an upgrade install from
Windows ME. From the posts that I've seen here, that could cause XP to
be unstable. I always recommend that people with WinME do a full install
instead of an upgrade.

Not true.

That's fine with me.

Windows 2000 Pro doesn't run on a Macintosh.

But regardless of that, thanks for sharing, and goodbye.

Greetings --

Do you have any specific problem(s) that you need help with, or
are you just venting? Why do you prefer to blame the OS, rather than
the individual(s) who obviously botched the installation and
configuration?

It sounds like an issue of incompatible/sub-standard/defective
hardware, or device drivers, or defective/sub-standard wetware.
Further, WinXP is much more sensitive to borderline defective
hardware, particularly RAM and hard drives, than is Win9x/Me.

Have you installed the most recent WinXP-specific device drivers
for the PC's components? Does the PC's manufacturer offer a BIOS
upgrade to provide true WinXP-compatibility? Are all of the PC's
components on Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)?
