XP Problem

Can anyone help?
I have some kid of bug or something that shuts down my XP
every time I try to do a virus scan or a Spybot check.
Anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it?

No nothing, it just shuts down the whole computer with

no signal to the monitor, and any attempt to reboot
before 1 minute off has no effect.
