I have recently encountered a problem where Windows Media Player would
recognize none of my cd/dvd burners. Took it in for service, but they
couldn't find an answer. we ended up wiping the drive and completely
reinstalling XP Pro. My question: A friend told me of seeing a blurb
somewhere that there are slow-to-develope incompatibilities when an ASIS
motherboard, a Pentium 2.4 CPU, and XP Pro are combined. Can anyone
substantiate or expand on this? Thanks

Deleting several keys in the registry is the common way of dealing with this
problem.

CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive appears to be missing after you install
Windows XP or Windows Vista Beta 2
