Most software products have installed and worked OK, but I'm having problems
installing two of my products on my new machine, WinZip and
UltraEdit/UltraStudio. WinZip installs OK and performs its key functions,
however it does not install the context menu into Explorer. I should be able
to right-click a file or directory, choose WinZip, see options like "Unzip to
here...", "Add to zip file", etc, but this critical functionality is not
available. UltraEdit will not install at all. I get the message "The
program or feature <path to where installation files are stored>\dictam.exe"
cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows."
I've contacted both vendors, so far no help from them. Is there anything
short of these vendors fixing something to get these two products to work?

Probably not. One of the problems with running a 64-bit operating system is
that 64-bit technology is still relatively new, and there are lots of
incompatibilities with it.

I read somewhere that the 64Bit (Beta) of 7Zip works fine:-

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I've also been searching for alternatives. WinRAR does not have a
64-bit version, but its regular version installed OK and did set up the
context menu in Explorer, so unless WinZip does something soon, I'll probably
switch to WinRAR.

Just wanted to add additional information to help anyone else who encounters
this: Finally (after more than a week) received a reply from WinZip. They
actually have a version that has 64-bit shell extension support. It is at
http://www.winzip.com/downwz64.htm. I can't find a reference to it anywhere

Hello Will,
You can load the 32-bit version of Explorer to get the context menus.
By default Windows X64 loads a 64-bit version of Explorer, so to see the
context menus for 32-bit applications you can load the 32-bit explorer.
To use the 32-bit version of Windows Explorer, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type the following in the Open box, and then click
OK:
Drive_Letter :\windows\syswow64\explorer.exe /separate
Note The placeholder Drive_Letter represents the drive where the x64-based
version of Windows is installed.

895561 Some Windows Explorer extensions and some Control Panel items are
not displayed on computers that are running an x64-based version of Windows
