Every now and then our computer with XP installed won't log off or shut down.
We go through the procedure of bringing up the shutdown window or logoff
window but the computer shows no reaction, like nothing has been done.
Eventually, I have to hit the reset button or power button. Everything else
seems to be normal. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I did read through that particular web page before I posted the problem. It
didn't help at all.

Hi,

Before applying shutdown, hit ctrl+shift+escape and make sure there are no
applications running. Then on the processes tab, selectively halt some of
them. Try shutting down. If it works, then the problem is one of the
processes that you killed. If not, then it is one of the remaining ones.
Repeat until you can isolate which one is causing the problem. Once you know
what is causing the problem, curing it may become simpler.
