I recently bought a computer and had it upgraded to XP Pro from XP Home. Now
it does not have MS Office. Is that right? XP Pro does not come with MS
Office? Will I have to get it separate?

No Windows OS comes with Office. It's a separate and much more expensive
program. Kinda makes you think that Office is only for rich folks ...

Windows XP Pro is an "operating system" and does not include
Microsoft Office. You may purchase Microsoft Office at your
favorite store that sells computer software.

Neither Pro or Home come with Office, as has been the case for all
earlier MS operating systems. Office is a separate software package.
Did it come bundled with your system originally? Some system makers do
that but then you should have received the install disks or recovery
disks for it.

Just guessing, but if you use productivity software less than once per day,
you don't need/want Office/

Correct. Neither Windows XP Home, XP Professional, not any other
version of Windows, has ever come with Microsoft Office, nor with
anyother significant application software.

Will I have to get it separate?

If you want it, yes.

Greetings --

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Access,Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows
operating system. They are, and always have been, separate
applications, that must be purchased and installed separately.

Well, CJ, I read all your other replies. But, if I understand you right,
you DID have Office before the upgrade to Pro. That tells me that whomever
accomplished the upgrade formatted your disk and erased it for you.

Also, your old OS/computer combo might have had only "Office Works" on it.
That is the customary suite supplied with store-bought computers. To
replace Office Works it's a lot cheaper then MS Office. I'm not sure of the
exact pricing, but, were talking a hundred or so compared to 3-5+ hundred.
Depending on where you buy it.

OpenOffice is a popular freeware Office suite.

No version of Windows comes with Office. If it was not bundled with the
machine (which is not now very common) you will have to buy a copy. If
it was bundled there should be a CD to reinstall it with
