XP Pro | Suspend | Shuts down hard inside 15sec after resume

A

Has anyone experienced an XP Pro system that slams within 15 seconds of
resuming from suspend mode?

In this case I am dealing with a Dell D800 laptop.
I have to suspend often dock/undock, but in this case I just left the
Dell suspended overnight.

I've seen this twice, now, and am concerned about loss/corruption of
data from these hard stops.
Especially if this can happen amidst the simple suspend mode needed to
dock/undock and continue working.

Thanks!

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your posting here.

I understand your issue to be that you cannot resume your laptop from
suspend mode and computer will shutdown in 15 seconds. If I have
misunderstood your issue please let me know.

Based on my experiences, the problem can occur if there is any device which
is not compatible with Windows XP. For example, a incompatible PCMCIA
device attached will prevent Windows XP from resuming from standby. So we
need to unplug any PCMCIA device or upgrade the hardware. So I recommend
that you check the devices driver.

If the problem still persists, I would like to confirm the following
information with you.

1. When did the issue first occur?
2. Do you get any error when you restart computer?
3. Is the problem random, or does it seem to occur at a specific time
interval?
4. Does it happen when certain programs are running?
5. Do you have any anti-virus or firewall running in the background like
Norton Anti-virus or Internet Security, etc?

In addition, please run the MPS Reporting tool to collect the system
information for further research.

1. Visit the following web page:

http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-88B7
-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en

2. Download the file MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE

3. Double-click MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE to run the tool.

4. On your system a CAB file will be generated for your convenience in the
%systemroot%\MPSReports\Setup\<Report Type>\Cab directory called
%COMPUTERNAME%_MPSReports.CAB. The CAB file will contain the reports
generated by the MPS Reporting Tool. Please send the cab file to me by
email. (where %systemroot% is the Windows system folder, such as C:\Windows
or C:\Winnt)

I am looking forward to your response.

Regards,
Bob Qin
