just installed SP2 and when it gets to the logon screen i
get a LSASS.EXE error and the system shutsdown

same in safe mode and last known

its not a virus ( i have checked with 2 progs and mcafee
stinger as well)

any help would be appriecated (I did notice a bios update
but that appears to be for Intel chips, this is an AMD
2.6 with 1Gb memory)

The pc was running fine on SP1.

Thx

Phil

If you have zone alarm on your system you'll have to turn
it off first.. I had almost the same problem..Hope it
helps..Kevin

Hi,

Please be precise in the error message. Is there a countdown screen
initiated by NT Authority? Is there an error code?

Yes it does countdown with a NT Authority
I don't have the pc in front of me and can't give you an
error code

I will have it back tonight to try again
I have been told to try taking out the sync to the web
for time this may help

Thx

Hi,

This is the sasser worm, please see:

http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_125007.htm
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_SASSER.A

To stop the shutdown, click start/run, type "shutdown -a" (without the
quotes) and click ok.

Details on the patch needed to prevent it:
