XP Pro SMTP configuration help

Is there a whitepaper or step by step guide to installing and configuring
the SMTP client on XP Professional?

I thought I had it set up but Outlook kept saying that the SMTP was
rejecting the outbound messages.

Are you using the correct smtp email server address? Do you are the
proper username and password.

These would be the three most likely candidates that are causing your
problems.

Your ISP may also be checking what IP address you are sending the emails
from. I can't use any email client at work to send emails from my home
account becaust my ISP checks the originating IP address of the computer
trying to send the email. If the IP address isn't on their system, they
won't allow it. I could easily retrieve (POP) my home email account
from my work.
