XP Pro sharing Desktop

Have set up a network between three computers (one desktop and two laptops)
and a wired/wireless router. All computers can see each other's shared
folders and connect to the Internet. However on the laptops I can also see
the desktop computer's DESKTOP. From any laptop I can click on any item on
the desktop computers DESKTOP! I don't want this. How can I stop the desktop
sharing its DESKTOP?

The desktop is actually a folder (C:\Documents and
Settings\userName\Desktop). If this folder (or it's parent) is set to be
shared, then the desktop will be too.

Hi Scott. Thanks for quick response. Do I have to make the folder Private as
well as not sharing it on the network? What is the difference? And how do I
deal with parent folders? If I make the parent private that is enough?
Thanks again,
Ed

You don't make folders private, per se. You just don't share them out.

To my knowledge, once a folder is shared all of its children are shared as
well. You can change the access permissions as to who is allowed to access
that folder, but it is still a shared folder.

The best thing to do is un-share the parent folder and just share out
particular folders you want to be shared.
