Please help, I need this computer for uni!
Over the space of a couple of days the following
happened, both cd drives no longer worked, they are
detected but show an error in system folder that
registery entries are corrupt or damaged. when removing
drivers and checking for new hardware they are both
detected but same errors instantly. then media player
began dying often when opening files, finally explorer
started restarting whenever i attempted to browse my
computer. I deleted hard drive and reinstalled win xp pro
all was working fine and now two days later same steps
are happening, cds gone-media player dying. What is
happening? I have all win updates and current virus
scanner (AVG pro)

It sounds like you are having hardware issues. I don't know what
"deleted hard drive" means. Here are some generic hardware
troubleshooting steps, but I really think you should take the machine
to a good local repair shop and have them check it out for you. Have
them rescue your data first if you didn't backup:

1) open the computer and run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and
observing all fans (overheating will cause system freezing); 2) test
the RAM - I like Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - let the test run
for an extended (like overnight) period of time - unless errors are
seen immediately; 3) test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from
the mftr.; 4) the power supply may be going bad or be inadequate for
the devices you have in the system; 5) test the motherboard with
something like TuffTest from www.tufftest.com.
