I have xp pro installed, long time, after I went to windows update and
downloaded the verification program, I was advised that my OS was not
original. I agreed to purchase a disc and am waiting for delivery. Since
then, my computer will reboot spontaniously, even from the welcome screen. I
have turned off the auto reboot in system, I have deleted service pack 2, I
have run mcAfee, ad-aware. The system restore will not work, suggesting that
it has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I have run various spy
ware programs but to no avail. I have tried booting in safe mode, but the
same things will happen. Any advice?

Yes, wait for the email from MS that will give you the new 25 digit number
to use and the link to check and install the legal system. If you have
problems after that, use the disk to do a repair.

Right click My Computer and click Properties | Advanced.
In the Startup and Recovery section click Settings,
Uncheck automatically restart.

Now, instead of restarting you will get a blue screen. Tell us what it
says.
