XP Pro Product Key Wont Work on Reinstall

I have the original hologram XP Pro CD and a product key sticker on my laptop
for the CD. My XP Pro is giving me so many problems with BSOD that as a last
resort I decided to completely reinstall XP Pro on my laptop and not do a
repair. The installation eventually prompts me for the product key which I
take off the sticker and I get the message that the Product Key is invalid.
I eventually had to abort the installaion. Now Ihave a half installed version
of XP that wont boot up and I cant continue the install becuase the product
code I thought would work does not. any suggestions?
Thanks

Your can only use your laptop's Windows XP Product Key
with the laptop manufacturer's restore CD or restore method.
It will not work with any other Windows XP CD. Contact
the laptop manufacturer for assistance in obtaining the correct
Windows XP restore CD.

Contact the maker of your Laptop and tell them the CD they gave you
will not work with the Product Key that they placed on the machine.
OEMs typically use an image to install XP to their machines.

You need to examine the Product Key very carefully. It's awfully
easy to mistake a "B" for an "8," a "G" for a "6," an "S" for a "5," or
a "Q" for a "0" or "O." Fortunately, Microsoft had the good sense to
leave the "1's," "I's," "O's," and "0's" out of the equation. Also, be
sure that your <CapsLock> is _off_ while entering the Product Key --
this isn't supposed to make a difference, but I've seen it do so, on
rare occasions.
