I am running Windows XP MCE2005 (XP-Pro)

Recently, I have lost the file sharing for disks on this computer.

I have File and Printer Sharing enabled in the Network Setup.

I have Simple File Sharing turned on in the Folder Options dialog.

I can see the shared disks of other computers on the network.

My shared printers and the Shared Documents folder show up on other computers.

I do not see a Sharing tab in the Properties dialog for disks.

I do not see Sharing when I right-click on a disk

Under the Shared Folders/Shares in the Computer Manager, the disks show up as
shared, with the little hand underneath.

In the My Computer window, the little hands don't show up.

I probably broke it by making one tweak too many or by turning off an essential
service, but everything I've tried has failed to bring back file sharing.

Any suggestions?

Simple File Sharing makes it easier, when things are setup properly. But SFS
forces Guest only network access, which doesn't make things easier in the long
run. Are you logged in as an administrator? If not, you won't see Sharing
options anywhere.

I checked under User Accounts and there are only two accounts -- my account
(administrator) and Guest.

Simple file sharing was working on this machine for over a year. I have done
something to make the Sharing tab disappear.

I'm trying to figure if there was some tweak (I've done a few) or one of the
services I've turned off that's caused this problem.

This is just a simple home network with only two users, so there is no
requirement for security or logons. That's why I was using SFS.

OK, let's check for the essential services. Run CPSServ on both computers,
after you download PSTools (free) from Microsoft.

Fixed.

Symptoms were that file sharing and printer sharing were working, but there was
no access to the Sharing tab in the disk properties. (In other words, not a
network problem.)

I used a program called shexview that examines all the shell extensions and it
turns out that the sharing extensions were disabled.

I used shexview to enable it.

This brought back the Sharing tab in the disk properties dialog.
