XP Pro Locking up

A

Antonio Villanueva

I am getting random lock up of my system. It is very strange but I think
its a driver problem. I have two thoughts, the sound card or the video
card. I would like to find a way to know for sure since the event log is
not recording anything. The system would freeze at random times. It can be
in Word, IE, or using Windows explorer. The mouse locks up and everything.
During gaming, sometimes I'll get a lock up and hear a looping sound beep.
Other times the screen would seem to change resolution settings but freeze
on black screen. I am not getting BSOD. No spike in system usage and the
hard drive does not start making popcorn.

If someone can point me to a diagnostic tool or log file that I can looks to
see what driver or applications faulted, that would be helpful. The sound
card is a Creative Awe and has the latest drivers. The video card is an
ASUS Ti200 8200 Geforce3. I have the latest drivers from Asus. Windows
says they are not certified. I have tried the default NVidia drivers but I
still get crashes on those.
