During the install of XP pro on a Dell workstation it
hangs up at the statement attempting to restart windows
in the DOS portion of the install. Any thoughts?

Hi Chris,

If you got the problem when you do the clean installation of the Windows
XP, I think we can try to update the BIOS of the Dell computer. Old/outdate
BIOS may cause the problem.

If this does not work, would you please let me know the detail model of the
Dell computer? I will check the Dell and give you more suggestions.

Ok,

I updated the BIOS to A14 and now I get the following
error. An unexpected error (200163328) occurred at line
1768 in D:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c.

Here is all the info.

Dell Dimension L800r Bios A14, PIII 800 256 MB Ram
this is a fresh install.

Hi Chris,

The error is caused by the hardware issue.

The following possibilities may cause the problem.

1. Bad memory modules
2. Bad Windows XP installation media
3. Bad CD-ROM

For the first, if you have added memory recently, please remove the new
added.

For the second, you can borrow another Windows XP installation CD from your
friends to install the Windows XP on the Dell computer. Test whether this
works. Note: please use your product key. Or, you may be unable to active
the Windows XP. If this success, you can contact the Microsoft PSS to have
the disk replace. http://support.microsoft.com.

For the third, if the above installation still failed, the CD-ROM is
corrupted.
