Hope someone can help,
Just upgraded from xp home to Xp pro, My sound card drivers are installed
(onboard soundcard) however I cannot enable them as the enable option is not
available in the hardware settings. I have tried everything i can think of
so far to no avail.
Any ideas?

If you can't enable the on-board sound in the BIOS settings, all the drivers
in the world will never be able to help you. Take the machine to a
reputable computer tech and have him look into it, unless you want to keep
pounding your head against a brick wall. Your problem is in the hardware,
not the software.

Soundcard is enabled within the bios, just not within hardware settings under
control panel, though soundcard is installed and working correctly. just
cannot use it.

Are you sure the sound card driver was created for XP specifically? Have
you perhaps upgraded from a version of Windows previous to XP?

Maybe try uninstalling the driver in Device Manager, then check with the
manufacturer of the card and make sure the driver created for the card is
the latest XP driver, then download it and reinstall it. Most pre-XP sound
card drivers just won't work well with XP.

Otherwise, without seeing your machine in person, it is kind of hard to
diagnose sound card problems. If you could perhaps give us the
manufacturer's name and the card model, it would be a little easier to help
you.

I do apologise for misunderstanding what you meant by "hardware settings".
Perhaps I should slow down when I read posts.
