XP PRO how to uses 4 gigs

I have a problem i have 4 gigs but XP only see 3 gigs.

x86 XP can access 4GB but less will be seen in XP. Some is used by
hardware. You will see between 2.7GB and 3.5GB approx. depending on the
hardware. There is no "fix". See this link.

compatibility issues with older software?

In general, no. 64-bit XP and Vista run 32-bit programs just fine.
There may be a few exceptions, but they would be rare.

Of course, you cannot run a 64-bit operating system unless you have
64-bit hardware.

FYI there is a newsgroup for x64 XP so if you have questions about specific
32bit apps running under it, you might want to inquire there.
