Is there a way to make an eval XP Pro accept my
purchased license key without a reinstall?

No, you need to perform a repair install using your
new Windows XP CD and Product Key:

Boot your current XP Pro Eval installation.
Insert XP Pro Retail CD.
Run setup, choose to Upgrade.

You'll need to reinstall any patches or service packs you
had installed, but all data and applications will be
intact.

I have read this a half-dozen times now and it still makes absolutely no
