I have a situation where I'm stumped. I have 6 xp pro workstations connected
to a 2000 server and when we come in the morning cannot log into network.
I have to reboot each machine before I can see the network. It seems that the
network connection is being dropped and not recognized when attempting to
reconnect. I have turned off any wakeup settings on the NIC and still no
luck. I have checked the server for any profile issues or connection drops
and still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas and has anyone seen this
before?

I would check the NIC properties in device manager.
Make sure the power management setting to 'allow windows to turn off this
device to save energy' or such is disabled.

I do know that WinME and W98 have a problem maintaining a connection to a
W2K domain.
Our security settings are to lock a user out after 3 failed login attempts.
Our systems are left on 24/7.
After being inactive overnight, users would be locked out due to the
conflicting network protocols between W2K server and ME/98.
It got really old calling GM every day to have users accounts unlocked.
Upgrading to XP solved the issue for us.

I already removed the properties to the NIC. The properties have the NIC set
at on 100 percent of the time. For some reason sitting idle for several hours
XP still loses its connection. I have checked the switch for any settings
involving dropping connections as well. Unfortunately, going to XP did not
solve my problem, actually created one. Any other thoughts??

Have you found an answer to this question yet? I've dealt with this for 2+
years now, and have not been able to find a resolution. If you know
anything, would you let me know?
