XP Pro: drive sharing permissions: works with "everyone", not with users

George

I have two XP Pro PCs. I would like to share entire drives, using
user permissions. (ie, not 'simple file sharing').

I think I went through
www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_filesharing -

I created user accounts on both PCs, with the same names and
passwords. 'Simple file sharing' is turned off. In the drives'
'sharing', I added the (two) users, and gave them permissions.

But, I can't access these drives unless I give permissions to
"everyone". That works fine. But, if I only give access to named
users, I can't: ...

When I try to open the (remote) drive in 'my computer', I get "drive
z:\ not accessible - access is denied". When I try to open it in 'my
network places', I get "\\computer_name\drive is not accessible. You
might not have permission ..."

In neither case does it ask for a password. I am able to open drives
which have 'everyone' permitted.

Any pointers, insight, or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
George

Are you behing any firewall (Zone ALarm) please check it,because ZA has got
some settings which doesnt allow others to get to access to your PC even if
in permissions you have allowed them.
Check the settings if you are behind a firewall(in particular ZA)

Well, I do have ZA (free). But, on both PC's, I've added the other
computer name as a (trusted) "host/site". ZA seems to accept the
names as legit. Is there more to this?

Thanks,

Hi george,
Did you check 'shutting down ZA' for a while and trying it,i guess that
should work or else go to "Firewall" on the left hand side that you see when
you open the main ZA window,in that try to reduce the "trusted zone" slider
to minimum or medium{which i think is at high at present} and try again. This
should solve it.
Try it

The "trusted zone" slider has been at "low" all through this. Maybe
it's not the firewall? Keep in mind, when I allow "everyone", I can
access the other box.
