I have two XP Pro PCs. I would like to share entire drives, using
user permissions. (ie, not 'simple file sharing').
I think I went through
www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_filesharing -
I created user accounts on both PCs, with the same names and
passwords. 'Simple file sharing' is turned off. In the drives'
'sharing', I added the (two) users, and gave them permissions.
But, I can't access these drives unless I give permissions to
"everyone". That works fine. But, if I only give access to named
users, I can't: ...
When I try to open the (remote) drive in 'my computer', I get "drive
z:\ not accessible - access is denied". When I try to open it in 'my
network places', I get "\\computer_name\drive is not accessible. You
might not have permission ..."
In neither case does it ask for a password. I am able to open drives
which have 'everyone' permitted.
Any pointers, insight, or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
George
