XP Pro and 2000 Sever

Hi,

Hope someone can help...

I have a 2000 Server configured as a domain controller.(All power management
disabled) and 5 workstations with Windows XP Pro (All power management
disabled) and 11 with Windows NT 4 workstation installed.

Logging on from NT is quick with no issues. The XP workstations on the other
hand is very slow in logging in, login scripts are processed OK. The problem
is that if a XP workstation is left on over night or not used for some
period during the day, the mapped network connections are either lost
completely (that is why I disabled the power management) or the connection
to the server is so slow that it takes up to 2 minutes to open small files
from the server. Even browing in Windows Explorer is very slow. Once the XP
workstations are restarted it seems fine for a while.

The NT4 workstations works 100%

ANY IDEAS??????

In order for xp to work properly it requires a properly
configured DNS server for your LAN All systems must be
registered in DNS. If you are using only internet DNS
servers or your local DNS has bad info you are doomed to
long logons. This will also explain the long reconnect
time. Drives that are not used are automatically
disconnected in Win XP/2000 and when needed reconnect very
quickly unless DNS is not telling your computer where to
go. The nt machines work only because nt uses wins for
name resolution. Check or configure a local DNS server and
your problems are solved
