I have just upgraded 98SE to XP Pro and i did a new
installation to copletely wipe the slate clean and start
again. I chose the wrong option during setup and ended up
with 98 remaining intact on my C drive and xp being
installed to my other hard disk (d drive) with a dual boot
system, which I didn't want. I wnated the OS and programs
on c: and my data on d:. Like a fool, I activated XP
before I decided to wipe the slate again, by formating
both drives, reinstalling a new version of 98 onto my c:
drive and then upgrading to XP. Evertything is now
exactly how I want it, but of course I am unable to
activate XP as it says I have already entered the key code
before!

Anyone got any ideas what I need to do to get round this?

Hi,

Oops.

Ok, seriously, all you need to do is call and explain what happened, you
will just have to activate manually.

In addition to what the other responders have said, when you call MS, there
is really no explaning necessary. They will ask something to the effect of
"Has this product been activated on this computer before?" you just tell
them that it has, but you had to do a reinstall. 'nuf said!
