XP or Vista with OE type identities

I have read pages of questions and am now more confused than ever.
In OE, I somehow manage to open OE ONCE and combine my identities into one
easy to use session. With a drop down box for new messages to select 'sent
by' and it will retrieve emails from all addresses with one click on
send/receive.
I have been told that with the new windows mail in Vista you must log off
and log on again to access the different identities. If this is the case, I
am looking for a comp with XP as this is a serious convenience issue for me.
can you manage multiple identities/email addresses on pop3 under one login
and one session with vista?

oh yea, just reinstalled OS again on the old PC how do I combine them in XP
again?

Identities and accounts are different things. What you are describing
sounds like accounts. You can add accounts to Windows Mail by clicking
Tools | Accounts.

There are no "identities" in Vista's Windows Mail.
However, you can have as many email accounts as you want
under one user.

I, too, am very confused with the new Windows Mail versus the old OE 6.0.
Under OE I had multiple email addresses and it was quite easy to keep them
and all their folders separate using the "Switch Identity" function under the
File pull down.

How can I do this in Windows Mail - e.g. keep multiple accounts separate.

About the best you can do with just Windows Mail is to use
message rules to separate incoming email so that emails from
different accounts go into different inbox folders.

There is an add-on option (not free) which can be obtained here:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMIDs/

A third option is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail (WLM).
Although WLM doesn't have the full-blown Identities feature
that OE had, nevertheless it has some of that functionality.
Separate folders for each account help to keep mail separated
without having to use any message rules.

I make new folders in WinMail and use message rules tike this:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the message is from the mail.fjsmjs.com account
Move it to the fjsmjs folder
and Stop processing more rules

Or, you can get WMIDs http://www.oehelp.com/WMIDs/Default.aspx
