XP Normal Backup - Backs-up files that have archive attribute clea

Hi, all:

I'm doing NORMAL backups of a single folder using NTBACKUP in batch mode; I
use the same backup file (.bkf) name each time. It works fine, but I notice
that it re-saves files that do not have the archive attribute set. In other
words, it seems to re-save ALL the files in the source folder each time I run
the backup, even if the source files haven't changed.

Am I first going to have to do a NORMAL backup, then switch to a
DIFFERENTIAL backup for all subsequent backups to avoid this?

Thanks for your help!

Hi, again:

I did some experimenting, in the meantime, and found that I could do a
NORMAL backup, then DAILY backups from then on. Unfortunately, new files
added to the folder being backed up, are not backed up. Frankly, I'm
scratching my head as to the usefulness of Windows Backup, other than
compressing files. And, we all know what happens when we used to restore
using a newer version of Windows.

I think I'll use Dantz Retrospect; it works the way I need it to.
Unfortunately, the guy I'm doing this for doesn't like to spend a cent.

Best regards,
Dan H.
