Is it possible to create a network using a wireless router and lan cables?
What I mean is that I have my main pc hooked directly to the router and my
notebook connected wireless to the same linksys router and want to set up a
small network so I can access files on the two computers. Just wondering if
possible and if how.

Yes, it's entirely possible. The kind of network connection used by each
device is really immaterial from a file sharing perspective. It might help
if you posted info about what you've tried (& what hasn't worked) if you'd
like more help with it.

I really haven't tried much. I have the notebook set up on a wireless network
using the linksys router and the desktop is connected via ethernet cable. I
ran the network setup wizard on the desktop and went to run it on the laptop
but since it is connected wirelessly it told me to plug lan cable in.

It must be possible because my configuration is the same as yours. In fact,
this message comes from my laptop.

You need to run the Wireless Network Setup Wizard in addition to what you
have done so far.

Do I need to run it on both computers or just the laptop. Nevermind just the
laptop due to it is the only one running wireless right?. I started running
it on the laptop, but is said to hook up a usb driver and then take the
driver to the router to set it up. Is this correct? And will it affect the
way I already connect using my netgear configuration?

Somehow or other the router and the laptop must have consistent settings for
the wireless part of the network. I can't address how this step is done
with your router.
I use a Linksys router and setup the router for wireless networking before I
setup the laptop. By the way, it is a real pain to get the encryption keys
to match. If they don't, then the computers will not connect.

No, you need not run the Wireless Network Setup Wizard on a computer that is
not connected via wireless.
