after recovering from the bug in the beta of the microsoft spyware problems
my desk top which is connected to a satillte moden and is them internet
connection basically stopped working after getting ICS working to my laptom.
The laptop can now connect for everything via the desktiop butthe desktop now
will not resolve addresses from the dns server on the internet. IE will work
some but I use netscape 7.2 and can't get anywhere from the desktop. IE seems
to work but outlook will not retrive mail either. any help would be
appricated as I've run out of options trying to fix the problem.

Tom,

Whenever spyware removal and network problems are mentioned in the same
paragraph, LSP / Winsock corruption is the first thing to check.

If XP SP2, Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" into the
command window.

Give LSP-Fix <http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>, WinsockFix
<http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257>, or WinsockXPFix
<http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html> a shot.

If no help yet, reset TCP/IP.

Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh int ip reset c:\netsh.txt" into the command
window.

I had run winsockxpfix the other day to get back on line and the destop was
working but was having problems with ICS. When I got ICS woking is when the
problem with the desktop happened. I did the netsh reset and reentered
tcp/ip info. ICS still working Laptop gets out okay, desktop still ot
working right. I am able to get to the newsgroup with IE but when trying to
sign in get page not found.
When trying to use netscape ( mail and browser) can not reeach dns server to
resolve address. Outlook express fails also. Going to cmd window ping ( ping
www.direcway.com my isp) times out. Can ping from laptop okay and do trace
route also but not from desktop.

appreciate the quick response and help

Make sure your Internet settings are correct, checking with DirecWay if
necessary. I have two clients with DirecWay and they have peculiar
networking requirements in that they must use a proxy server. Perhaps
your proxy settings are missing or incorrect.

the desktop was working fine begore I got the ICS working. Now the noyrbook
is working via ICS on the desktop but the desktop is not working. I've always
use direct connection for the desktop.

finally got ics to work on the desktop by uninstalling direcway navigator and
reinstalling.
