I have a peer-to-peer network with windows xp home and pro edetions. I am having problems browsing shared files on computers in the same workgroup, can't see the shared files or printers. Any help?

just because they are shared doesn't mean you have
security access rights. Check the security on the folders
and you may have to add your username to the list.

also make sure that you can "see" the other computer on "my networks" first.
if you don't see the other computer, there's something wrong with the setup
in the first place. if this is the case, make sure both computers are using
lan cards with cross-twisted pair cables attached to them. next, have both
computers go through "network connections"->"setting up a home or small
office network". then, right click on the folders that you want to be
shared.

I have a similar problem with windows xp professional.
My Windows 2000 box cannot share or even ping that F*** XP
box.
Sign... it's not the ICF as it's not turned ON.

Did you run the XP Network Setup Wizard on all machines? If you ran the
wizard, there's a place where it asks about your Internet Connection. The
wrong choice will block machines from seeing each other or at least the XP
machine. For most networks, the correct response is the "Gateway" response.
When you run the wizard, be sure any security software is turned off on all
machines. If you have anything besides ICF, any other firewalls or software
designed to block ads, popups, even antivirus software, turn them off on all
machines before running the wizard.
