Hi..,

I just change a new server last week running winnt 4.0 as
backup controller. Some of computer running xp cannot
access this server (can see the server at network) but
cannot access. the message is

"'server-name' is not accessible. You might not have
permisssion to use this network resource.Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permission. An attempt was made to logon, but the
network logon service was not started."

1. Try to ping the IP address of the server. If you
don't get a response then look for a firewall running that
is preventing communication. Especially make sure Windows
XP Internet Connection Firewall is not running on your
internal network connection.
2. If ping comes back from the server ok then make sure
you are logging on to XP with a user name and password
that exists on the server.

Are you saying you were able to ping IP address of the
server and get a correct response(didn't timeout)?

I can see the server when i browse the network. but

Did you say the server is a domain controller? If so,
have you gone thru the process of joining the domain?
Michael

yes, the server just setup as a backup domain controller,
but this pc can access to company main server after keyin
the username & password . but not in this server. what
process should i do, to make the pc access to the server
backup domain controller. FYI. the pc set as static IP.

I don't think it is an issue with that PC if you can logon
to the main server. That seems more like a authentication
issue on the BDC. That would involve the user rights and
permissions to the BDC. I would try using the BDC
administrator account to logon to the PC and then see if I
had access to the server. If you can then you would
confirm that the problem is not on the local PC.

that server?.This problem happen only for those are use xp
home edition but xp pro no problem , because client xp pro
login to the domain. I'am not very expert wint NT server
user right. Anyway, thanks for your help.

Finally i get, Actually I'am not started the net logon
service. I have to synchonise all BDC as primary by
manually. TQ for your idea.

I am given to understand that Windows XP Home is not able
to join a domain. So I don't expect XP Home to be
correctly authenicated to your domain controller.
