I have heard of different mouse pointers, sometimes loaded with desktop
themes. I don't know what a "mouse gesture" is. Is the term someting from
one of Apple's operating systems?

This doesn't have anything to do with Apple. Mouse gestures are where
you can make the mouse do an action by moving the mouse in some way.
For instance, moving it in an arc to the left might take you back a
page in a web browser. You need third-party software to do this.
Perhaps some of the more expensive mice come with the ability to do
this; I don't know. The Opera browser has mouse gestures included, and
there is an add-on project to provide this functionality for the
Mozilla browser. There's also a nifty little program for Windows that
does this called "Stroke It". Do a Google for "mouse gestures" and
you'll get lots of useful links, including the Stroke It website.
