XP missing icons

Greetings,

How can I repair my desktop icons under XP SP2? Most of the icons are not
linked to the proper application, especially the Office 2003 icons. I have
tried to repair office but the "windows installer" is freezing all the time.
I can't even unintall Office 2003, getting always the error message from
Windows installer that it can't be uninstalled. How can I fix it ? I have
tried with the original CD with no luck. What did I miss ?

What icons are affected other than Office? If it is just Office 2003
then an Office newsgroup is usually better focused for these questions.

Including *precise* error message details can assist.
