I've just realized a couple of new PCs I purchased recently have XP Media
Center version 2002 on them. They've been in the box so long I don't recall
discussing the OS version with the sales person as I've always needed XP Pro
to join a domain. At any rate I'm assuming that Med. Ctr. is basically an
enhanced XP Home version and can NOT join a Windows Domain, correct? I'm
also going to have to wipe out the OS installed and reinstall XP Pro or is
there a way to upgrade to Pro?

Thanks.

It's an enhanced version of WinXP Pro, and no, it cannot join a domain. You
would need to do a clean install of a new WinXP Pro.

XP Media Center 2005 is built over XP Prof; however, I believe earlier
versions were built over XP Home. Google around to find out about the 2002
version..

Pro?? Why would Microsoft drop the networking aspect if this was a Pro
derivitive?

Anyway, that's what I was afraid of. Thanks.

Media Center was to be used for controlling a home entertainment center.
Since this is normally one area of a home, no need to set up a domain since
you would not request more than "few" (less than 1o) PCs.

BTW: Media Center versions prior to 2005 was supposed the be able to connect
to a domain. In version 2005, this was removed.

....it has one feature of Professional missing. It can't join a domain.

Sorry, no there isn't.

It is based on Pro, not Home. It was my understanding that the early
versions of Media Center could join a domain. You might want to test one
first.
