Greeting to all,
I developed an Access 2000 application with FE/BE. Before deploy to the
users, I do the test on my desktop. I have two computers, one is a 5 yesrs
old Windows 2000, the other one is an 1 year old Widows XP, they both have
same memory 512 meg. When doing the test, XP seems slow to add new record or
update, but 2000 is much faster.
I reviewed the advise form
http://www.granite.ab.ca.access/performancegaq.htm , I seems follow all the
rules. There will be about 10 users for this application. If it slow even
with two computers, how can I deploy to the users. Any idea to improve the
situation? Thanks very much.

Are you using Access 2000 on XP machine, or some newer version?

If you are using access 2002 - 2003 on XP machine, convert your app to new
format, and it will be ok.
I had lot of problems running access 2000 app from access 2002, especially
with linked tables. It was so slow that it's pretty much useless. I never
tried it with running 2000 app from access2003, but i suspect it would be
similar. Conversion is straight forward, so you can continue developing in
2000, and just for deployment convert it to apropriate version.

If you are using Access 2000 on all computers, there shouldn't be any
difference.

Dragan

Does the slow machine have Google Desktop or a similar disk indexing tool?
(I once saw this affect a user's Access MDB performance Win XP machine.)

Also, is the slow machine, in general, more cluttered with programs running
in the background? Has the disk been defragmented lately?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if the Access app runs fine on one box
but not on another, then look at the computer first.
