XP is toast

I have a Intel Celeron processor running at 533 MH and
lately when I boot Windows XP takes a very long time to
get to the users page. When I go to my desktop, there is
no task bar and I get a "Application fatal error - unable
to connect to the CCD process" message. I can go on-line
but it's slow and when I log off, the task bar returns. I
have reloaded XP and all the upgrades. My memory seems
fine so now I'm thinking it may be my hard drive but
before I spend any money on hardware, I need to be sure.
Any ideas?

It's not in the budget right now. Maybe you missed the
part of the question where I said I didn't want to buy
hardware needlessly. Thanks for your help.

Test your hard drive. Go to the website of the manufacturer, and download a
diagnostic testing program. Be sure to follow the instructions.

What makes you think its your hard drive?? Noise, lots of bad spots, trouble
saving files or what? SMART warnings?

Not sure what the CCD process is---doing a google search, seems it's some
sort of camera or something else attached to your computer.

Why don't you disconnect all the hardware devices such as printer, camera,
hubs, modems, etc and try a boot and see what gives then. If all is back to
what you consider normal, then attach one at a time and do the boot process
until you find out which one is causing the problem. Also if that doesn't
work, try using msconfig and eliminate the startup item(s) that is
associated with the CCD process.
