I have xp home on a compaq presarrio and last night the
windows up date came up to download and I clicked ok.
After it downloaded it told me it needed to restart and I
clicked ok and from there on out it has been stuck in a
continuious reboot. When it tries to reboot it goes to
the windows xp screen where you have the loading line
moving across but then restarts back to the bios to start
over. I called compaq and they are morons in idian with
no idea for help. I tried the recovery disk but I get
stuck on the 6th disk. Please help!!! Thks

I have had this prob before after doing an update several times.
What I do first is press f8 and choose safe mode if this starts up try restarting if not then start from the begining again and press f8 again and choose restore from last good configuration. If this dont work boot from the xp cd and select install windows it will then find a previous installation and it will then ask you if you want to repair it do this and that always works for me.

ok, I tried the safe mode and it did not work, it just
did the loop again. I tried the last known config and it
come up with this error. "windows could not start
because the following file is missing or corrupt:
windowns root \system32\ntoskrnl.exe" any ideas?
