Hi all,
I am currently installing XP professional on a new computer (new
motherboard, processor, graphics card) and everything looked o.k. until
after the decision point to either install XP new or repair an existing
installation, check of the hard drive started and it has been at it for
over 40 minutes now.
Is this normal or what dureation is to be expected for checking an 80GB
HD?
Thank for your help.

No, it is not normal for an 80GB hard drive. Start over.

Thanks for quick answer. I started over several times now with another
HD as well, always the same result (or no result).

Do you have any idea what the reason for this can be?

Be sure jumper settings are correct. Try another known-good drive.

Are you getting any error messages? Since this is a new machine, if you
bought it somewhere without an OS installed take it back immediately.
If you built it yourself, strip the machine down to the RAM, the video
card, one optical drive, and one hard drive. If you still can't
install, then there is a problem with one of those components. Start by
replacing the optical drive with a known-working one.

In edition, its not a sata drive is it that require F6 to install sata
drivers?
Or a drive that has been prepared with a third party utility?
