XP install/registration info please

I bought an HP notebok with XP home installed. I don't remember that
I registered anything with MS in order to use the XP software. Was my
serial number already registered with MS by HP? Does installation of XP
require an internet connection? Thanks.
 
Hi,

Registration is a choice. Activation is required. Your system was likely
activated at the factory. You would only be required to reactivate if you
reinstalled. An internet connection is not necessary for this procedure. If
none is detected, then you will be prompted to phone in the activation code.
