XP Install - No BIOS CD Boot option

A

Andre du Rand

I have a SiS513X notebook with a TEAC CD48E hard drive and an IDE hard
drive.

I want to perform a clean install of XP, but there is no CD boot option in
BIOS, from SystemSoft, only stiffy, hard drive and PCMCI card.

History:

1. I tried (several times) to perform a clean install of XP, from Windows
ME, but it hangs after installing device drivers, and sometimes complains
about the Hal.dll file.
I am not sure if I can recover to the old ME system.

2. When I boot DOS 6.2 from stiffy and install the TEAC device driver, I
can see the CD, but cannot see the hard drive.
I then tried to run setupexe. on the XP CD in the DOS mode, but it says
it cannot run this program in DOS mode.

What now? Any ideas will be gratefully accepted...

moot

there's an article on MS web site about how to do this.
basically it says to create a boot floppy from Win98, then
boot up the machine you wanna install to with CD ROM
support, then you can fire up the XP install from the CD

PLEASE NOTE - it says after you have booted from FD run
smartdrv otherwise the copy process will take ages and may
crap out. I tried it without smartdrv and it did crap
out!!!

Moot out ...

Get the Windows XP Boot Diskettes and use them. There are still systems out
there that won't work easily without this option - yours sounds like one of
them:

XP Home Edition:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=E8FE6868-6E4F-471C-B455-BD5AFEE126D8

XP Professional Edition:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...db-5039-4955-bcb7-4fed408ea73f&displaylang=en

You'll need 6 blank floppy diskettes.
