XP INfinite Loop

I am in an infinite loop with XP which reboots after the introductory screen
and the horizontal progress bar. This is on a SATA disk which the recovery
program on the original Windows XP cd-rom cannot recognize. I suspect that
the problem was caused by an incomplete installation of Works 2002 as this
has happened before but this time I can't get XP to load to the point at
which I can return to an earlier restore point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks in advance
most sincerely

Hi,

Can you get to the boot menu by hitting F8 as soon as the POST ends? If so,
then choose the last known good config, or safe mode with command prompt and
run rstrui.exe in the C:\Windows\system32\restore folder. Or, if you have
SP2 installed, choose the option to disable autorestart on system failure to
break the loop. Then you should at least get an error message so you can
have someplace to start your research.
