XP in Sleep Mode and Updates

If I set my computer for Windows Updates at 3am will it download them if
computer is in Sleep Mode? Basically is the computer "on" in Sleep Mode for
updates?

If the computer is on, its not in sleep.
Sleep is not a running state. The OS has to be running.
