What's the deal with these dozens of Windows XP Hotfix entries building up
in my Add-Remove Programs program listing? Also, $NtUninstallxxx folders in
Windows folder?

They are the windows updates that you download from Windows Update. If you
remove them, then you remove the patch that is installed to correct security
issues.
