I bought two new computers that have Windows XP Home edition. I have
Windows XP Professional from my previous computer. Is it recommended
to install the XP Professional on my new systems?

... not unless you have any great desire to join a domain or use some of the
more arcane security measures included in the Pro version..

Not really. You need a separate license for each installation
of Windows XP Pro installed on a different computer.

Do you really need Windows XP Professional?

Only if you need the features that Pro has over Home, otherwise, why bother?

First, is your copy of XP Professional a retail one or an OEM one? If it's
retail, you can put it on *one* of your two new computers; the rules is one
copy (or one license) for each computer.

But if it's OEM (for example, if it came with the computer). its license
ties it to the first computer its instralled on and you are not permitted to
do this on either new computer.

Second, over and above whether you *can* do it, there's probably no benefit
to your doing it. XP Professional and XP Home are exactly the same in all
respects, except that Professional has a few features (mostly related to
networking and security) missing from Home. For most (but not all) home
users, even those with a home network, these features aren't needed and
would never be used.

..For details go to

Also note that Professional allows ten concurrent network connections, and
Home only five.

Thanks for the feedback. I have the retail version. It sounds like
there would be no reason to install the XP Professional, it is exactly
what I needed to know.

You're welcome. Glad to help.
