XP Home Restore

I am having a problem with XP restore. I have resore enabled and set to
default of 12%. However the system will not keep more than one checkpioint.
The event log says that system restore was turned off becuse of low drive
space condition. Then a few minutes leter the log says restore ewas enabled
agin and makes a restore point. The system will not keep more than one
restore point. I have one drive with 2 partitions and one has 12 GB free
space and teh other has 54 GB free space.
Can someone help and point me in teh direction of how to fix this? Or does
anyone feel it is not worth messing with and should be disabled?
