XP Home password/login problems

Hi, I've got a heck of mess. All of a sudden my password doesn't work any
more. I've done some searching on the Web for some work arounds but things
just keep getting worse. Most recently I did a repair - no help but now I
can't even get into Safe Mode because it says I need to activate the
software again and of course I can't log in to do that.

I've tried using the install CD, hitting that first 'r' when prompted to,
then I hit the '1' to boot to XP Home and the third question is the password
again.

Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Thanks,

pepper

when you power on tap F-8, or whatever button you use to go to,
main-security-etc. for passwords just hit enter. you might also want to
restore all defaults. try using enter for a /r password.

F-8 takes generally takes me to Safe Mode but it won't in this case because
it says that Win Home has to be activated before I can use Safe Mode. And
I'm not sure what you mean by "using enter for a/r password" but I have
tried using just 'enter' everywhere I get asked for a password and so far it
hasn't worked. Thanks!

some comp's on power on you can get to the security section by tapping delete
if so you can scrool down to security and hit the enter button which is no
password but acts like one. it's not in the safe mode section F-1. i may
have missed it but what kind of machine is this,

Thanks Ron but this looks to be way over my head. I spent some time reading
this site and the linked sites and I think it would more up my alley to just
do a clean reinstall. Maybe someone will have something easier
