I have 2 computers linked to a router which is then linked to an adsl modem

Computer A does not show Computer B in Network Places and a ping test from
Computer A to Computer B results in a time out error message

A ping test works between Computer B amd Computer A amd both computers are
listed in Network Places on Computer B

What remedial action can now be carried out?

It seems I need to work through your diagnostics for which I send many thanks

I am likely to have limited time before Monday but will try to provide
feedback on the diagnostic steps (which I find a bit daunting even though
they are very clearly expressed)

Unfortunately the problem has come at a difficult time but will try to
respond with precise progress information

Just take it one step at a time. When you don't understand something, stop and
ask for help. You can get help here, on a 7 x 24 basis.

Make sure that a firewall on Computer B isn't blocking access from
Computer A.
